Cabinet clears bill seeking new age-based classification of films

Though the draft of the legislation is not available in public domain, government sources said it aims to comprehensively address the issues relating to film certification, improve the procedure for certification of films for public exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification, and introduce new age-based categorisations of certifications of films, dividing the existing UA category into three age-based categories of seven years (UA 7+), 13 years (UA 13+), and 16 years (UA 16+), in place of the previous 12 years.
